CARR MUST COME CLEAN ON CORRUPTION CONCERNS Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 October 2009

''One member of the Labor caucus was in and out of the headquarters of ClubsNSW so often that in my view it wasn't inconceivable that he may have warranted an ICAC inquiry … in muddying his role as a legislator with his role as a lobbyist for the club movement.''

Former Premier Bob Carr, SMH, 14 October 2009

Shadow Special Minister of State Chris Hartcher today called on former Premier Bob Carr to name the Labor MP over which he had corruption concerns.

“If this MP is still a Member of the Rees Labor Government, Mr Carr is morally bound to name the Member,” Mr Hartcher said.

“If not, it is clear Mr Carr does not care about reducing the stench of corruption overtaking Nathan Rees’ administration,” he said.

“To ensure the integrity of the political process, Mr Carr must name the Labor MP in question and tell the community what action he took.

“Mr Carr must explain, if the actions took place while he was Premier, why he did not take action at the time.

Mr Carr must answer the following questions:

  • Did you report these concerns to the ICAC?
  • Is the MP still a member of the Rees Labor Government?
  • Is or has this MP been a Minister?
  • Did you confront this MP about your corruption concerns?
  • Did you speak to any other MPs about the Member’s activities?
  • Did you warn Morris Iemma or Nathan Rees of your concerns about the MP?
  • What actions did you take to protect the integrity of the Government from your corruption concerns?
  • Given you’ve now been out of office for 4 years, are there any other corruption concerns within the Labor Government you’d like to raise?

“This is a broken Labor Government, run by a weak and incompetent Premier.

“It’s clear that even Bob Carr has serious concerns about the probity of this Government. His concerns are shared by the people of NSW,” Mr Hartcher said.
